Our Garden Fit For A King…
The children brought in plants to improve the school’s gardens to promote wildlife at Thomas Hickman. This was also a tribute to King Charles’ sustainability goals within education.
Global Guardians After School Club
At Thomas Hickman one of our clubs promote sustainability within our community. During these sessions the children designed and planted an orchard consisting of apple and pear trees.
Following this, the children promoted recycling in school assemblies and made posters to remind children and staff what could be recycled.
Global Guardians took to the sky to support our site manager in lowering our energy bills. They asked each class to vote for a ‘Saving Swan‘ to ensure lights, plugs and taps were turned off when they were not in the room.
Aylesbury In Bloom
During the summer term we entered the local competition ‘Aylesbury in Bloom‘. The children in Gardening club had an active role in shaping our outside spaces and gardens with this in mind.
They ensured that our wild life area was full of bee friendly plants and animal houses. They used a weather station to record the weather weekly supporting each other how to read the gauges. The children planted in a range of places including containers for our vegetable and her garden.
We won second place for our edible garden and wildlife garden. As this is the second year entering we got the most improved garden.
