Introducing your Governing Body

Pippa Brand-Benee -  Head Teacher

Nearly 30 years’ experience as a Primary and Secondary governor. Councillor for Aylesbury Town Council’s Quarrendon Ward (which includes the school). Retired regulatory manager with BT with considerable experience with dealing with national regulators and government departments.

I'm Kim Bourke-Smith and I have worked at THS for 8 years.  During this time I have worked across all year groups teaching your children and their siblings, a role which I am passionate about and enjoy.

I have two grown up children who I have seen through primary school and beyond.  Education is very important to me and your children and I look forward to supporting the Governors with my experience and knowledge.

My name is Kate and I am in my 2nd term as a governor at Thomas Hickman School, I have had many voluntary roles working with children which I have enjoyed and learnt a lot from. I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. I am a Customer Service Manager with a key part of my role being to review data and provide insights which is a skill I use in my governor role.

My name is Patricia Gurton and I became a governor at THS in September 2019. I qualified as a primary school teacher in 1988 and worked first in Harrow and then in schools in and around Aylesbury. I was the Headteacher of two local schools prior to retirement. I also have three grown up children who went through the Bucks school system.  Now I  want to use my expertise to help the school give the best possible education and care to all our children.

Head of IT for a group of over 50 schools, and with a background of working in primary schools, secondary schools and colleges in the home counties on technical projects, procurement and strategy.

My name is Becky Smith. I began my role as Co-opted Governor in September 2023 after being a primary school teacher in Buckinghamshire for 21 years. I am married with five children and want to be involved in the local community by sharing my experience though governance at Thomas Hickman.

I am Dr Bashak Onal and recently joined the THS family as a Parent Governor. I have an academic and scientific background and been working in the NHS for nearly 15 years. I have always enjoyed serving the public and the local communities. Being a parent myself, I understand the challenges we, as parents and carers, face daily. I am keen to act as a bridge and work with the school and the families so that together we can make a difference for our children.

My name is Saad Ahmad. I am the Finance Governor at Thomas Hickman School (THS). Outside of THS, I am a seasoned Change and Transformation leader with more than 15 years of experience, mostly in private sector. Excited about the opportunity to learn and contribute to this wonderful school.”

My name is Shevron Reid. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world! These are words made famous by the famous Nelson Mandela and it has been my mantra for my entire life, so I decided to become a teacher. I have spent all my life being inside a classroom both as a student and as a teacher. I am committed to understanding how education operates at every level and seeing how best I can influence the next generation of adults. My role as a governor at Thomas Hickman will help me to accomplish my dream of having a deeper understanding of education. As the sustainability governor, I will utilise my skills as an Environmentalist to ensure that Thomas Hickman continues to be a champion for sustainability in Aylesbury!
